My work is mainly centred on Brittany, north-west France, my home for many years. I have written a dozen books and many articles covering aspects of Breton history, landscape and legends. I am particularly interested in the intricate relationship between historical reality and the creation of stories, and the psychology of landscape. Although non-fiction is my professional focus, I also write fiction and poetry.
Talks and walks
For the last five years I have given talks and taught courses about Brittany’s complex, ambiguous and vibrant past. My town and countryside walks, guided visits and tours all over the region also come under the banner of Brittany Walks (www.brittanywalks.com), founded in 2004.
In the media
I have given many interviews about my work and life in Brittany, and broadcast a series on Breton history for Spotlight Radio. I have also been filmed by French TV for a documentary about the Nantes-Brest canal. My work has appeared in the UK national press and magazines.
